Christian Disciplines: help for our daily living
To be a disciple shaped into the image of our Lord Jesus Christ, it is essential to practice the disciplines that He practiced. Spiritual disciplines are activities that are possible for the believer, and by practicing them, they enable the believer to do what he or she cannot accomplish by personal strength alone. These are activities that form new habits by transforming the routines and thoughts of daily life. They are practices that create time and space for the Holy Spirit to give understanding of the truths we find in Scripture, that prepare the heart so the Spirit of God can speak and move, and that provide structure so that transformation can take place.
The key to personal transformation lies in the practice of spiritual disciplines, and in how that practice affirms human life in all its fullness. The spirit of the disciplines is for anyone who seeks to be a disciple of Jesus in thought and action, as well as in intention.
